Q:
Who should participate in 'a course in Greatness'?
A:
The
course is open to anyone who is serious about their personal growth.
From our experience this usually has attracted various leaders,
creative individuals and entrepreneurs. But anyone who desires
to release more of their potential and accomplish more with their
time here on Earth, will find this course of major benefit.
Q:
What's so different about 'a course in Greatness', from all other
courses available?
A:
What
is unique about the 'a course in Greatness', is that it
offers a complete understanding of your fundamental
capacity for excellence and personal achievement. This is a course
that puts fundamentals first. It establishes in a cohesive
unit, all the essential habits for Greatness.
There
are no courses that we are aware of, that give you all the proven
and time tested essentials, in a complete and ecological package.
We have combined the theory and the practice in a long term ongoing
program, as to cultivate the essential
habits and capacities for Greatness.
'a
course in Greatness' is here to put a self-actualizing philosophy,
into action. Through exercises, meditations and coaching
sessions, you'll gain experientially the sense of empowerment
which many books talk about, but fail to show you 'how to internalize'.
Q:
What other programs is it like that I'd be familiar with?
A:
This
course is a synthesis of much collected wisdom. Learning about
ourselves and our power, is nothing that we all deep within don't
already know. As Galileo Galilee expressed, "you can never
teach anyone anything, - you can only help them remember what
they've have always knew".
Q:
What's so important about this program, when there are so many
other personal development courses to choose from?
A:
What
is essential in all programs, whether they are in education, personal
development, fitness... etc - is a strong commitment to the fundamentals.
You want a program that utilizes the 80/20 principle,
- one that maximizes 'the vital few vs the trivial many'.
The
80/20 principle states that in life, not everything is of equal
value. 20% of all your actions produce 80 of all your results.
Conversely the other 80% produces only 20% of the results.
Most
companies manage according to this principle. They have realized
that about 20% of the faults in a product line are responsible
for 80% of the complaints. Through this understanding, they first
eliminate the critical 20% of flaws, and thus have solved 80%
of the problems. By focusing on the most important faults
first, they automatically improve their quality control.
You
can recognize this principle in your life, when you consider that
in your daily schedule, you probably have about 20% of the
hours that contribute for 80% of your results. And conversely,
the other 80% of your day is wasted on more trivial activities
that only produce 20% of your results.
This
course is based on this critical 20-80 principle. Not
everything is of equal value. It is important that we dedicate
our time and energy in programs that are committed to working
on the critical 20% - the ones that create 80% of the results.
That's what 'a course in Greatness' is all about.
Q:
What is the most valuable quality that I must have in beginning
this course?
A:
Courage,
noted Winston Churchill, is 'rightly esteemed as
the first of human qualities because it is the quality which guarantees
all others'. It is from within courage that all the highest
states of being like love, peace and joy are realized.
We
must first have the willingness to try new things, to be something
more than our conditioning. Therefore be willing
to experiment with the realms of power that these physical, mental
and spiritual practices offer. Be willing to
be coached.
The
environments in which we live are most often unsupportive for
the process of growth. Society as a whole does not encourage
growth, genius and greatness. As almost all philosophers
have observed, it is a system that seeks safety and mediocrity.
It teaches conformity. It applies implicit and explicit force
on individuals to be, think and act just like everyone else.
It
takes courage to break the mould that we have
implicitly and explicitly placed upon us. We must have the
courage to risk criticism, to risk looking 'uncool', to risk the
safety of numbers and what others think you should be doing.
That
is a major factor why many betray their 'soul instinct'. That
is a major factor why only a few in each generation express
their genius.
As
Emerson noted, 'it truly demands something godlike,
to cast off the common motives of humanity and to venture to trust
yourself for a Taskmaster'.
Q:
What is recommended to make this program work best?
A:
To
make this program really work is simple, and yet it is also very
challenging. What makes this program truly transformational is
the willingness to learn with an open mind.
This is often easier said than done.
Since it's the past perceptions that are often limiting us, learning
with an open mind, means that we don't allow past paradigms
to distort the message 'presented presently'. When we think
we 'already know', we fail to bring sufficient attention,
in order to be affected by the message. When we
judge based upon pat learning, we but reinforce the past, - and
make little gains from the present.
Remember,
our past mindset and perception is already given.
We always have it to fall back on, because it's automatic.
To
really learn a subject well, we need to consciously suspend
our pre-conceptions, - even if for the time being. The
best learning experiences happen when we allow ourselves to really
listen - presently, - as if reading anew.
This
means that we have to be willing to suspend the paradigms that
we have 'sculptured' our reality with, both good and bad.
Our
greatest fears, are not the fears of the 'unknown', but the fear
of loosing what 'we think we know'.
Therefore
be open to the coaching, reading and meditation experiences
here. Observe your own mental patterns and catch yourself
when you're not being present... In
that moment, you have just become present.
Q:
I am too busy with work and family that I do not have time for
applying the exercises and attending the coaching sessions...
Will this course still work?
A:
In
the 21st century, we live in stressful environments that can place
a lot of constraints on our time. Balancing our schedule to include
all the activities that make our lives meaningful, pleasurable
and healthy is a constant challenge.
We
do have time though for the activities we think are of utmost
value. What
we choose to act or not act, speaks volumes about what we consider
to be important, - regardless of what we outwardly say that we
believe. Ultimately, action is the real barometer of our inner
philosophy.
So
we have to begin there and consider whether we believe these practices
are really important. What
has turned around my attitude for me, was the understanding of
these activities, in the context of my life:
They
are practices for fundamental nurturing and cleansing my mind
& soul, for cultivating strength and weeding out weaknesses.
Habits
like reading, exercising and meditating are essential actions
for developing Greatness. Just like we have daily meals
and hygiene rituals for our body - we need to develop and pay
regular attention to the health rituals for our mind and soul.
Attention
is the key. We need to give at least as much attention to
our mind and soul, as we do to our body. Just
think how much time you invest daily in eating, in washing and
grooming... etc.
Can
our mind and soul be really at its best when it's fed and cleansed
every few days or even less? Do they really deserve less?
Ultimately,
practices such as these leverage the use of our time.
It does not eat up time. It helps us to make maximum use of our
time, because it keeps our priorities and values focused.
It's
like that proverbial woodsman who by stopping and sharpening his
axe, - not only conserves more of his energy, - but also gets
more work done than the man who just keeps on mindlessly cutting
with a dull axe.
The
exercises of this course will make your whole day more productive.
Through them you will be empowered and inspired to tackle the
most important activities first and foremost, with purpose,
awareness and grace.
Begin
now with what you can do and you'll soon notice the difference
in your effectiveness.
Q:
I've participated in other programs and they all made large promises,
but have been disappointed by their results. What can I expect
from this program?
A:
If
you have previously read other self-help books and tried to make
changes only to return to the old habits, you have addressed a
very important point: 'Why are behavioral changes but temporary?'
In
understanding this problem, we have the key to finding an authentic
resolve.
For most, personal changes are temporary. They are a yo-yoing
effect between two states: the problem state, and the 'idealized
state'.
It
doesn't matter in what aspect of life one has tried to make changes
- whether in the domain of physical health, or finances, or
relationships, or learning. This problem is not only common,
but is the core characteristic of 'solutions' that don't
understand, nor address what is inherently problematic.
If
you follow the principles outlined in most self-help books, you
can only expect temporary results. That may be a startling
statement, but it really represents a very common experience.
Why?
Because the solution is almost always partial. When
anyone tries to formulate a structure for changing attitudes
or behaviors, separated from 'the whole', it eventually
crumbles, because it does not take into account the many other
forces that come into play. It fails to understand
the context in which it acts.
Setting
a goal or an affirmation, for the sake of having a direction,
doesn't resolve anything - if not in line with our authentic
purpose and awareness of who we are.
Without
this context of purpose and self-awareness, goals are
meaningless. We need to directly experience and know this. It
is only within this orientation that mental training tools like
visualizations and affirmations can effectively transform
anything.
There
are no 'magic bullets', and all books have something useful to
offer. The challenge often lies in the fact that knowing one or
two principles is just not enough. That's like having a few
pieces of the puzzle, but no final picture to work with.
That
is why I highly encourage you to participate in 'a course in
Greatness'. We put together together 'the whole'.
This
could be compared to the process of 'alloying' - i.e.
the process of mixing one metal with another, to create a new
and improved material. Of themselves most metals are actually
weak. But when we take a metal with the tensile strength* of 5,
another with 3, another with 7 and combine them, they can
create a magical tensile strength of 100!
*
tensile strength is a material's capacity to resist stress,
to resist being torn apart.
