a
course in Influence: Habitual Leadership
Winning is a habit. Unfortunately,
so is losing.
Vincent Lombardi
The
sixth president of the United States, John Quincy Adams wrote that,
'if your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more
and become more, you are a leader'. Since we are all involved in
social relations and seek to support others in becoming more, we
are all in this sense leaders. The essence of leadership is not
a matter of position or title, but a matter of function.
Leadership
applies first and foremost with yourself and in you becoming more,
and it radiates in all the circles of influence you have - from
family, to friends, to work colleagues, to customers, to community,
to nation, to the world. Leadership is the habit of awakening the
human spirit, as to create something together, more than the ordinary.
Business
leader Peter Drucker clearly differentiated management and leadership
with the simple idea that, "management is doing things right
- while leadership is doing the right things'. As
the previous course in Abundance set in place a way to habitually
do things right, 'a course in Influence' takes on the more subtle
habit of recognizing what are the right things - i.e. what are the
universal values and how can we leverage their motivating power.
Recognizing
Dr. Hill's maxim that nothing truly great happens until one learns
to engage the cooperation of others, the course now cultivates the
art of leadership in its highest form - as service.
'a
course in Influence' is designed to habitualize the leadership
habit of seeing the highest potential in others and treating them
in a way that nurtures their greatness. In it one develops the
vital skills in building cooperation and good will, as to establish
a powerful Master Mind.
Leadership can be thought
of as a capacity to define oneself to others in a way that clarifies
and expands a vision of the future.
Edwin H. Friedman

Your
Course of Habitualization
Grounded
in the second essential theological value, love - 'a course in Influence'
provides participants with a deep-seated mindset into the principles
and effects of servant and transformational leadership. This course
will help to habitualize a way of processing and enacting that maximizes
these skills.

both team-work, followership and headship, one learns both the practice
and philosophy of great leadership. Leveraging these two aspects,
individuals learn how to excel in building cooperation, making effective
decisions and executing with integrity. Most
importantly, one explores the central idea for how to build deeper
relationships with others.
