 The
Self-Awareness Faculty
Self-awareness
is the first building block for any personal transformation, and
the core foundation of this course.
Self-awareness
is our unique ability to witness our lives in a detached manner
and its relation to the world and our soul.
It is our power to detach and objectively become aware of
our body, (actions/ physical performance), of our thoughts, (beliefs,
values and attitudes), and our 'beingness' (soul/ spirit), - in
this present time and space.
Self-awareness
is the perspective that can help us identify our strengths and weaknesses,
reality and our conceptions of reality, what works and what doesn’t.
The
power to make choices is fully dependent on awareness, because what
we’re unaware of, controls us. Dr
Phillip McGraw noticed that there’s a life law that, “you
can’t change what you don’t acknowledge”. It is
a law, for only when we objectively admit and assess our current
reality, do we become empowered to do anything about it.
In
fact, the simple act of expanding self-awareness is enough to
immediately improve performance. For example when you play
a sport like tennis and you begin to focus your awareness upon the
physical movement, - there’s an automatic sense of self-correction
that instantly takes place. You begin to notice the muscles
that are over-tensed and you begin to gradually relax into a more
fluid motion.
But
perhaps our best source for increased self-awareness comes from
our interaction with others. Coaching is essentially a mechanism
for objectively increasing our awareness of our strengths, our blind
spots and how we are performing in relation to our goal. With this
increased self-awareness we can accelerate improvement, beyond what
individual effort can do alone.
As
such, 'a course in Greatness' throughout is built upon a coaching
culture. It leverages the increased self-awareness from being
and working with others - through group teleconference classes,
coaching circles and one-on-one conversations.
What is necessary to change
a person is to change his awareness of himself.
